Season 2008

No sooner had England won the Ashes, than the cricket season drew to an abrupt close! Judging by the number of telephone calls I have over the last few months, this famous victory has certainly whetted appetites for the game.

At Hayes we have spent a busy few months planning the 2006 season. Many of you commented to me how impressed you had been by our coaching staff, in particular Dean Wheeler - I am delighted to announce that we have secured Dean's services for the coming season. Dean is spending the winter coaching in Hong Kong and will be back at Hayes in time for the new season.

Not only have we secured the services of Dean, but we have also had the addition of two brand new outdoor nets. These have been secured through funding with the ECB, in conjunction with our planned development programme, which will lead to Hayes be one of the first clubs to receive the prestigious "Club Mark" status. We are also pleased to announce the addition of a new bowling machine to assist in our coaching programme

Winter Nets (Indoor)

Our winter nets programme commences on Thursday February 2nd at 18.30-19.45 and will run until March 30th (with a break for half-term). As before, this will be held at Hayes School, where we have exclusive use of 5 nets. We have kept the cost fixed at £3 per session (please bring on the night) and look forward to welcoming all players - and prospective players - in school Y5 and above.

As a club we will be entering sides in U11/U13/U15/U16 leagues in the North Kent League and the nets programme will be a key part of the selection criteria.

Coaches will be there to ensure you're in top form for the New Season. Why not bring a friend and see if they fancy plating cricket at Hayes this year?

The Hayes Academy

A new development for 2006 see's the formation of a Hayes Academy. Managed by Dean Wheeler, we will be selecting a squad of players, based on ability, commitment and attitude. These players will be invited to additional coaching sessions and receive 1:1 coaching from Dean and the coaching team. Eligibility for the Academy will be strictly controlled and players who show aptitude during the course of the season and not initially invited may well receive subsequent invites. The Academy is an exciting development for Hayes Cricket and has the support and encouragement of the entire club. The Academy will be an integral part of our coaching programme at no extra cost.

Colts Membership

Membership fee's for 2006 are £60, which is a family membership that allows parents to use the Club. Where there are additional brothers or sisters wishing to join, they will be further £15. Our match fee's are set at £1 per game.

As a club we have plans for an exciting season. As always, these initiatives depend on the support of all players and their parents. Along with this letter I have attached a list of the key dates and you will see we have organised a number of events that we would like all players and parents to support. We have a quiz night on Saturday May 20th - why not come along and watch our Saturday sides in action and enjoy a drink in our newly refurbished Bar and take part in the quiz? On Sunday July 2nd we are holding a BBQ for all Colts and Parents - Come and enjoy a typical summers day whilst cheering on one of Sunday sides!

Hayes Cricket Club is now celebrating it's 178th Birthday - the Colts section is the lifeblood of the club - our current 1st XI Captain, Ollie Waite, started his career here, as did Ben Phillips currently playing 1st Class Cricket for Northamptonshire and Lydia Greenway, our England international player - who played in the victorious Ladies Ashes side last summer and has recently returned from representing England in Sri Lanka and India. Is your child our next superstar? Or do they just enjoy playing cricket? Either way they will be made most welcome at Hayes.

I look for ward to seeing as many of you as possible during the current season - please come along to one of our social events or just come along and watch your child play, or make use of the club/bar facilities on a Sunday morning when you pick your child up from coaching
